mate-notification-daemon software package provides daemon for displaying passive pop-up notifications, you can install in your Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install mate-notification-daemon
mate-notification-daemon is installed in your system.
Make ensure the mate-notification-daemon package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep mate-notification-daemon *
You will get with mate-notification-daemon package name, version, architecture and description in a table
